Welcome to the FFR.   The Fighting First Regiment is an Independent, Progressive Reenacting Battalion that strives to offer its members and guests a more authentic 1860s military experience.

The progressive nature of  the FFR means that members and guests share not only a common goal to improve their impressions, but to also have a good time in doing so.

The primary impression of our member units is that of  the CSA.  However, some events we attend suffer from a severe lack of Federal soldiers.  At these events, if our members are willing, we will portray the 82nd Ohio (US) to help improve the event, .

The Fighting First Regiment  was formed with three very specific purposes in mind:

The first is to provide veteran reenactor's a Battalion where they can experience military life as it was in the 1860's.

The second is to help ALL reenactors, both old and new, to improve  their impression's both in camp and on the battlefield.

The  third is to include the civilian in the camp of the FFR.  Our civilian activities are guarded and directed, making  them functional to the purpose of the military in the  field, which lends to the whole experience.

The elderly Confederate and Union veterans
are shown reuniting over a stonewall in 1938
at the 75th anniversary of the Battle of
Gettysburg. The clip ends with a
chorus of Rebel Yells

FFR's military standards are conducted in a more authentic manner, progressively making the change from modern tendencies (or conveniences) to that of the true military in the 1860's.

For example, the Fighting First Regiment companies will be expected to answer two roll calls a day, receive company passes in order to be absent from camp, stand guard duty, and to be familiar with all battlefield maneuvers from skirmish drill to fire by the drum.

The FFR does have a provisional training section,  Company H.    Company H not only provides instruction in the drill manual and about military camp life for new recruits, but also expert advice to aid in progressively  finding the right uniform and equipment.

The Fighting First Regiment offers a home to a variety of reenactors. There is a place for those wanting to camp in tents with their family and still get the most of the military experience.   There is a place for the campaigner who wants to truly experience all that being a civil war soldier meant.

If you want to do more than just sit in camp waiting for the next battle, the FFR may be the place for you. Please check out our event schedule to find those events at which you would like to join us, and then send us  an email and let us know when you are planning to fall in.

We looking forward to seeing you in the field.

Your most obedient servant,

Colonel  James Carver

Commanding, Fighting First Regiment
